Nails Suck!

There’s a lot the can go wrong while on the road. I’ll spare you the details and angst but speaking from experience, blow-outs are awful. We had one a few years ago in our other Airstream and it did a good amount of damage to the trailer – especially the wheel well.

Needless to say since that trip I’ve been pretty paranoid. I keep and eye on the tires every time we hit the road. I check their pressure on a regular basis and when in doubt, we replace them. It’s almost like insurance, a few hundred dollars is a small price to pay compared to dealing with the aftermath.

So when we were sitting by the trailer last night you can image my stress when I discovered a roofing nail in one of our tires. One of our new tires. The ones we just bought before the trip. The ones with less than 2500 miles on them. Son of a b……!

In a glass half-full kind of way, we got a bit lucky discovering it. We were safe and sound at our campsite. The tire appeared to have not lost any air. And best of all, we avoided a potential blow-out and didn’t have to change the tire on the side of the road.

After a few calls this morning I located our make and model and found a great place in Billings – L.P. Anderson Tires. They were able to get me right in and get the new tire on within a few minutes. Plus, like everyone else we’ve encountered here, they were incredibly nice.

We’ll count this as a small hiccup and thank the tire god a crisis was avoided. Onward!
